Palm Sunday (April 10, 2022) – 8 and 10 AM services – Palm Sunday is a bit jarring. We immediately move from joyous celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem to his last days marked by suffering and death. We will have services at 8:00a.m. with blessing of the palms in the back of the church. The service will continue with the readings, the reading of the passion of our Lord followed by Holy Communion.
The 10:00a.m. service begins in the parish hall with blessing of the palms and a procession into the church led by a bagpiper. The service will also continue with a dramatic presentation by our teens in the confirmation class. The communion service ends with the beautiful Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s requiem mass. Tenebrae Service (Tuesday April 12th) – 7:30 PM – Tenebrae is the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows,” and has for centuries been applied to the ancient monastic night of the last three days of Holy Week. This service is marked by readings from the book of Lamentations and the gradual extinguishing of candles after the recitation of psalms or Canticles until the single Pascal candle, considered a symbol of our Lord, remains. Towards the end of the service, this candle is removed, typifying the apparent victory of the forces of evil with the death of Jesus. A loud noise is made symbolizing the chaos of the world without the light of Christ. The Pascal candle is restored. At the end all depart in silence.

Maundy Thursday Agape Dinner/Eucharist: April 14 5:30-8:00p.m.
On Maundy Thursday during Holy Week we will gather in the parish hall for an Agape meal that will go immediately into Eucharist at the table. We begin with foot washing as folks enter from 5:30-6:00 p.m. to be followed by dinner at 6:00. We end the evening by inviting everyone back to the church to strip the altar and exit in silence. You can still RSVP on the sign-up list at church or send an email to the office. Please indicate name, number coming, and designate how many will eat lamb and how many roast pork. Good Friday Services: April 15 3:00p.m.
This will be a traditional prayer book service of readings, the passion according to St. John and veneration of the cross.
Easter Sunday: April 17, 6:30a.m. 8 & 10a.m.
The first service will be a sunrise service conducted at the Gilead Congregational Church that will include three churches coming together to begin the celebration of Easter. Services at St. Peter’s will be at 8 (Rite I with hymns) and 10a.m. featuring choir and brass.
