Summer Programs at St. Peter’s
For our Children and Youth:
Although church school is now in recess until September, the church school staff wishes to encourage families to join us for Sunday worship during the summer months. We will be offering four different experiences for families this summer.
• Regular Sundays (June 14, August 2, September 6) – Services of Holy Eucharist with no church school. Sermons will be prepared with children in mind – shorter and with illustrations to engage children. Families will worship together.
• Youth Sundays (July 26, August 30, September 13) – These are “regular Sundays” with youth serving as greeters, readers, intercessors, oblation bearers, ushers, acolytes and chalice bearers. JoAnn Osmond is coordinating this effort. If your child or young adult would like to participate, please call JoAnn (228-0032) if she doesn’t call you first.
• Children’s Activity Sundays (June 21, July 19, August 23) - Activities for children of preschool and church school ages will be held in the parish hall during the 10 a.m. Eucharist at the normal church school meeting time: 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Children will then join their families at the Peace for Communion. Coordinators: Judi Babin, Liz Cyr and Barbara Parkyn.
• Morning Prayer Sundays (June 28, July 5 & 12, August 9 & 16) – Children will worship with their families. At the service of Morning Prayer there is no sermon and services generally run about 30 to 40 minutes in length.
Copies of “The Sunday Paper” will be available to children at all services during the summer. “The Sunday Paper” presents the readings for the day in comic book form and may include activities such as word searches and crosswords for children.
Vacation Bible School 2009 will be held the week of July 13th at the Gilead Congregational Church Parish Hall. It is open to children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade as of September, 2009. This year the title is “
And for the Adults (children are welcome, too):
Pot-luck Supper and Bible Chat with Father Perry
Here’s something different for our summer schedule! Father Perry will be hosting a pot-luck supper and Bible chat on three Sunday evenings this summer. Each gathering will begin at 5 p.m. in Phelps Hall with a pot-luck supper followed by a lively discussion about the Bible, faith, and our everyday lives. We will conclude around 7 p.m. The dates:
• Sunday, June 21
• Sunday, July 26
• Sunday, August 30
Each session will include a featured Bible story or reading. Father Perry will provide some background information concerning the passage, followed by provocative and lively discussion. The aim of these conversations will be to allow time for people to reflect on how faith can become a meaningful support during our current turbulent times.
What you need to bring:
• A Bible of your choice
• A contribution for our pot-luck supper
• Yourself and anyone you think might enjoy this evening
• An open heart and mind
Children are welcome! Special activities and movies will be available for children who do not wish to participate in the discussion.
