All things come of Thee, Oh Lord,
and of Thine own have we given Thee.
This expression of thanks for all our blessings is said in unison as we prepare to share in the Eucharist, and it blesses the offertory as we worship together.
As we enter September, and the last third of 2007, we at Saint Peter’s are planning for much to do anew or differently- Church School, youth activities, inquirers’ groups, Confirmation and Reaffirmation, just to name a few. We worship on Thursdays, Sundays, and one Saturday a month. We rejoice at many baptisms and weddings, and we grieve together at funerals. Beautiful music enriches our worship. Pastoral care is given when needs are made known. We truly welcome newcomers, and want to do better incorporating all in the vitality of the parish.
The joys of our church membership include expectations and accountability- that we will take care of our blessings as good stewards. The church, parish hall, and rectory must be maintained. Bills for necessary items must be paid. We are entering the heating season. We must pay salaries and fringe benefits, property insurance, and a pledge for the work of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese and in the world. Our only source of income is from parishioners. The annual costs are $210,000. We have approximately 165 households in the parish; 89 of these pledge to the church, leaving a large deficit and ceaseless challenges in meeting expenses. What is the solution? Every household should be giving to their church. If you pledge, thank you and please continue. If you are not pledging, it is never too late. Regardless, please consider church stewardship in your financial decisions, and give as best you are able. Most of all, hold your church always in prayer. We are blessed.
