George Rose

Comfort Cross Ministry

One of our parishioners, George Rose, makes lovely Comfort Crosses for us to sell as part of our healing ministry.

A Comfort Cross is designed not so much to look right as to feel right.  The cross beam of this cross is deliberately uneven, designed to fit naturally between your fingers.

A Comfort Cross is not meant to be decorative or ornamental.  It is designed to be touched and embraced.

Sometimes it is enough simply to hold the cross silently.  This is in itself a prayer.  Maybe you have no words anyway, and it is through your sense of touch that you are expressing your love and your need for Christ.

Holding a cross can also be a way of praying for others, expecially those who are suffering.  Or it can be helpful to hold a cross when making an act of penitence.

If you are ill, simply holding the cross may be the best way to pray.  It doesn't matter that you have no energy for other kinds of prayer.

You could give a Comfort Cross to a person without sight, or someone who is dying, as a way of sharing the love of Christ with them.

Proceeds from the sale of these crosses are returned to the Lord in support of the mission of the Church, which is to "restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ".

If you are interested in purchasing a Comfort Cross, please contact us at stpetershebron@sbcglobal.net.  We are asking a donation of $15.50 (shipping and CT tax included) for our comfort crosses.  They are made of hardwood (such as curly map or oak) and are polished and oiled with non-toxic mineral oil.  We say, 'They look strange, but they feel just right.'
